Roksanda Ilincic.. A Fashion Fairy tale at Villa Moda

I was over the moon when I saw Roksanda Ilincic collection being sold at Villa Moda Mubarikiya. She is one of my favorite designers. Her clothes are pieces of art. Wonderfully quirky, carry a romantic style, with a little bit of grown-up glamour, all put together in a creative creation which blows you away.

The pictures I have posted here, are some of the items available now at Villa Moda Mubarikiya, and honestly, the pictures do not do them justice. You have to go there to see the collection for yourself.

One of my 2 favourite dresses in this collection is this minty green short sleeveless dress with big frills in the front & a hint of black feathers (KD 370).

This white & black dress (shown below) is my other favorite dress. Notice how the humongous black satin sleeves give the dress a unique character. Beautiful!

I love the mixture of rich & whimsy fabrics, humongous pleats & bows, raw edges, and sleeves with extra volume. It felt like every item had a fairytale or a story to tell. I just love her for that.

Of course! but not the exact way you see it on the runway. We usually tone it down.. give it more of a realistic look. :)

They do get a lot of new designers every now and then. Their only problem i think is that they are inconsistant. And some items are waaay overpriced..

Carlsberg's right, you know. Even if it is toned down one notch where in God's name can you go out wearing such outfits in Kuwait ?? To Salhiya, the Riccardo, or perhaps to the next stock clearance sale at VM?!

I'll be honest - I do not understand even the half of fashion trends, still I am in awe of designers, such as Nicole Farhi and Ritu Beri who have stepped up to the plate in designing wearable apparel for today's woman. Another thing I have a hard time digesting is why are there only young svelte models walking the runways since world over, it is generally the 40 plus women, with the wherewithal to fork out that kind of money on designer booty. Shouldn't there be at least some HRT popping baby boomers on the runways?
Sorry, I honestly didn't mean to rain on your parade, err...Roksanda's parade!

When I said asked if women really wear that? I really meant the sometimes extreme additions that the designers add to the clothes that make them look ridiculous such as huge sleeves and hats, and things normal people don't wear ;p

The length of the dresses are not a problem, because these will be worn at occasions and female gatherings.

She is creative, but it depends on personal taste afterall. You have to decide if it suits you and if you're comfertable in the first place wearing it.

Personally, There are my taste and wouldn't reflect me .. So I will pass..^_^

Roksanda Ilincic designs cannot be worn for casual outings that's for sure. You woldn't see me wearing any of her designs to Salhiya or wherever. They can only be worn for parties, at home receptions, or a dressy formal dinner. And as I said before, you can't wear exactly what you see on the runway, If I did that, I would look redicilous! For example, I would wear the minty green dress with thick black tights and a plain black heels. I wouldn't wear the hair pieces/hats she has on her runway show. If you pay a visit to Villa Moda Mubarikiya and see the collection for your self I'm sure you'll have a different view.

As for the models. I don't have the answer to this question and I wish I did :) I wish that the fashion world would embrace heavy weight models, short, tall, older models.. etc so that they can truely represent women who like fashion.

And please, feel free to say whatever you want to say. Don't worry, It won't ruin my parade ;)

The first one looks even better in real life :)

Why you have the most classic new age taste!
Bit of an Edwardian myself, do we know if the models come along with the outfit as freebies.

Chanel Dubai Cruise 2015 Collection

I can't remember if I shared my views about Chanel's Dubai Cruise 2015 Collection on my blog or not, but I thought I'd share with you some photos of the pieces on display now at Chanel Boutique in Kuwait, Prestige in the Avenues and Salhiya Complex. I wasn't too crazy about the clothes. However, I did like some of the bags which had pompoms and tassels on them, as well as the gigantic pearl clutch. I also loved the Moroccan-inspired pointy flats and the silver jewelry adorned with coins and crescents. Of course the shoes were sold out in my size and I wasn't so crazy about the patterned ones. I LOVED the flap bag with Pom Poms, but it was above my budget. Overall the collection felt more Moroccan than Dubai-an. I wish if they have incorporate more of the our gulf region's culture into the designs. Oh And I added to this post photos of Chanel's milk carton shaped python clutch bag embellished with a CC signature. They're not part of the Dubai colle

Altuzarra or Aquazzura?

That is the question. It took me a whole season to finally tell these two brands apart, and this season, there's no mistake, each brand is now engraved in my fashion database like a personalized Tiffany's pen. And this Resort 2015 season, I'm head over heels with their flats, on display now at AlOthman Boutique . Altuzarra's version comes in a tonal-gray water snake and are decorated with beige shells, red beads and silver sequins. Aquazzura's lace-up sandals come in a beautiful shade of apple green, and will work with white or bright colored casual summer outfit.  After much thought and sole-searching, I have decided to go for the  Altuzarra   sandals. They're safely stored in my closet, waiting for the dust and the cold to go away.  Which pair would you go for?

To New Beginnings...

"What did this Corona crisis teach you?" my friend asked. My first thought was thing crisis has opened my eyes on the simple pleasures of life. My priorities have changed. And I feel every day is a new beginning. First of all, it made me realize how much I miss blogging. How simple and mentally satisfying it was to jolt down my thoughts on a field that I was very passionate about. I have to admit that I'm not as passionate now. Don't get me wrong, I still like fashion, but it's now on the bottom of my priorities list. I would like to blog about other things too that I feel much related to. I recently discovered that I do enjoy cooking. For the longest time, cooking to me was a nightmare.  This corona crisis has taught us that we can look forward to a new day with new possibilities to contribute or to help another, or to simply approach things differently, and most importantly to make the most of each day we have and share that goodness with others.
