Miraduma in Sirdab 6 Caftans

Ever since I've seen these photos of Russian entrepreneur and street style icon Miroslava Duma dressed in caftans by   Sirdab 6 by Souad J. Al Sabah for a fashion editorial for Marie Claire Kuwait , and I've been anticipating the exhibition of the designer's Ramadan collection. Unfortunately for me, due to my personal commitments, I was unable to go to the exhibition which was held last week, but my sister did and she got one gorgeous flowy caftan, no photo of it yet, but hopefully soon.  Souad J Al Sabah managed to turn her vision into a reality. In 2002, she launched her unique designs blending culture, design and art. She cleverly combined vintage with modern fabrics to create her own unique signature pieces. Her strive for excellence takes her all around the world in search of the finest fabrics. Her mastermind was behind the famous trend that has swept over the region, the "short dara'a." According to the designer whom I met recently i...

Porter's Paaaartaaay

Founder and Executive Chairman of NET-A-PORTER Group Natalie Massenet and Editor-in-Chief, PORTER and THE EDIT Lucy Yeomans, hosted a black tie star-studded reception for over 400 guests including celebrities, models, socialites, contributors and advertisers to celebrate the launch of Porter's inaugural issue at Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, Paris, France earlier this week. So who was at the party? Oooh just a few of their close friends, let's see... Rihanna, Jessica Alba, Olivia Palermo, Alexander Wang, Christian Louboutin, Isabel Marant, Pierre Hardy, Haider Ackerman, Prabal Gurung, Phillip Lim, Olivier Theykens, Jason Wu, Viktor and Rolf, Charlotte Olympia, Izabel Goulart, Arizona Muse, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Elisa Sednaoui, Mira Duma,  amongst others, no big deal.  My favorite part in such events is who wore what? I think Miraduma wins the best dressed award in this event.

Vintage Elle Magazine

A few months ago, my sister was vacationing in France and stumbled upon an old French Elle magazine from the 1950s at an old bookstore. Knowing how much I love fashion and appreciate vintage she bought one copy as a gift for me. Needless to say I was over-the-moon! According to wikipedia ,  Elle  was founded by Pierre Lazareff and his wife Hélène Gordon in 1945. The title, in French, means "She". As I skimmed through its old and delicate pages, I really felt like owning a piece of fashion history from what is now the world's largest fashion magazine! The magazine also makes a fantastic inspiration for people in the industry, there’s lots of great fashion photography and fantastic advertisements. I was surprised to see how huge the trend of wearing plaid was back then. Fashion really goes through the same cycle huh?

Actress Haya Abdulsalam Like You've Never Seen Her Before

We've all seen the latest cover of Kuwait-based magazine  ATHNAIN   and the amazing transformation of pretty actress  Haya Abdulsalam . Last week I have received even more photos of  Haya Abdulsalam 's fashion editorial, featured in the entertainment issue of   ATHNAIN . I must say that the creative team behind this editorial have done an amazing job. I mean they have completely transformed  the actress into an avant-garde and uber-chic persona. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen the actress, dare I say, look so stylish. Except maybe on the cover of Marie Claire Kuwait a few years back, when she wore caftans, but I wouldn't call her look stylish back then, more like Ramadani chic.  According to Yousef Al Taher , the Editor and Co-founder of  ATHNAIN magazine, the complete issue is inspired by  David Bowie  because they believe David Bowie  is the ultimate entertainer who defined style/fashion and a...

Dear Confashions: Athnain Magazine's Entertainment Issue Launch Event

I have just received these photos from Yousef Al Tahir, one of the founders of Kuwait-based lifestyle magazine Athnain . They have recently launched their second issue, themed around famous people in Kuwait's entertainment industry. Actress Haya Abdul Salam was chosen as the cover girl for this issue, which I think she looked spectacular on the cover, completely transformed into something very avant-garde. I haven't seen the issue yet and unfortunately I missed attending the launch event of the magazine's second issue, but here's a quick look of the night of the event.

Harper's Bazaar Best Dressed List

Knowing how obsessed I am with magazines, my lovely friend Rana was in Dubai over the weekend and got me a copy of Harper's Bazaar Best Dressed list, which comes complimentary with HB's March issue. Speaking of magazines, what's wrong Kuwait? Why aren't we getting any fashion magazines? The once that are being sold throughout bookshops are November and December's editions! Someone told me that the delay is caused by some sort of heated rivalries between two of Kuwait's main magazine suppliers. Bummer! I know we have zinio now, but I prefer reading my mags old school style. Anyhow, contrary to the previous best dressed list edition , this edition featured more Kuwaitis than ever: Nadia Behbehani, Amal Khoursheed, Fatima Al-Qadiri, Hanan Al Jouan, Hind Al Wazzan, and Noor Al Sabah. Kudos to Kuwaiti Style! I enjoyed reading the profile of each one of them, especially that part where artist Fatima Al Qadiri mentioned that one of her favorite fashion items is...

Video: Marie Claire Cover Shoot

Al Moda blog posted this behind-the-scenes video of the making of Marie Claire's  magazine (Kuwait edition) cover shoot featuring Kuwaiti designer Noha Al Roomi and stylist Bedour Al Saleh. The video is fun to watch and gives you a sneak peak of the clothes and accessories used for the magazine's fashion editorial.

Let There Be Light

Noaf Hussein , has shared with me this sixties mod inspired fashion editorial titled Let There Be Light , which she has styled and art directed for the February edition of the Avenues magazine. Photographed by Djinane Al Suwayeh , whom according to Noaf is a dream to work with and even though she was sick on the day of the shooting she still committed herself to the project. Professionalism at its best.  The editorial highlights that swinging 60s vibe but in a very modern chic manner. Some of the featured items cost as little as KD 2, but the team behind the editorial managed to make everything look no less than fab. Here are some of my favorite looks. You can view the entire editorial by getting your free copy distributed throughout the mall.
