Miu Miu Pays Tribute to the Middle East

Everyone who knows me, knows that I have a soft spot for bag charms. They're fun, cute, and add a dose of irresistible character to your plain handbag. So when I got the news about Miu Miu paying tribute to the Middle Eastern culture by presenting an exclusive playful yet multifunctional accessories in luxurious precious skin, I got excited intrigued. The round-shaped charms has the Arabic alphabet, each piece presenting a letter design with metallic hues and vibrant colors. They're cute, nothing groundbreaking. I'm not sure if these bags charms would step up my bag charms game, but I guess it depends on their price tag and how "exclusively" exclusive they are. Maybe they'll grow on me? I don't know... What do you think? The charms should be available exclusively in  Miu Miu   Boutiques throughout our region.

NunuPink 2016 collection by Reem Al Mudhaf

I have received an e-mail during Ramadan from the super talented Kuwaiti kaftans designer Reem Al Mudhaf of NunuPink with a lookbook revealing her latest designs for 2016. I have decided to share some of its photos here but only after Ramadan as I felt her designs deserve the exclusivity and privacy required to protect them from the most common issue with or local designers, the unwanted prying eyes, who tend to copy other designs and claim them as their own. For Ramadan 2016, Reem did not disappoint. Her caftan designs are made from the highest quality fabrics with the most innovative small details, meaning her caftans not only look fabulous but feel super comfortable to wear - essential for a glamorous ghabqa/Ramadan wardrobe. I must admit that when I first skimmed through the lookbook, I was somewhat neutral to the designs, something was off with the images and I still can't put my finger on it. I'm glad I decided to visit her studio and get a better look at her des...

Unfollow

2014 was the year of the selfie, so for 2015 Online shopping site that stocks products from over 300 independent boutiques around the world FarFetch has invited me a while back to join their campaign to turn my back on the crowds, do things my own way and turning my back on the "selfie" . Due to my day-to-day commitments I didn't get the chance to participate at the peak of the campaign, and now that I started enjoying my free time, I decided to write a post about it. UNFOLLOW celebrates the singular style of the fashion-loving Farfetch customer through images seen from the back. I think this is plain genius! I have never been a fan of the selfies and it depicts a point of view of fashion truly showcasing the clothing without labels or famous faces and challenging consumers to seek out the unexpected, to unfollow the crowds. So here's my unfollow photo, shot in Berlin, Germany.

New Designer: Kamushki

A few months back, the representatives of an emerging jewelry brand called Kamushki have sent me an e-mail to introduce me to their brand. I was familiar with their designs thanks to instagram's explore page, but I never found out the name of their brand until they've contacted me.  Kamushki  is a brand that was co-founded by two Libyan-born Switzerland/Dubai-based sisters who had an eye for jewellery and loved to travel to build a knowledge of other cultures.  " In Libya we are big believers of the evil eye and one of the symbols of protection that breaks the eye is the fish. ", expressed one of the founders of  Kamushki .  " In our Libyan traditional clothing there is always big gold fish intertwined within our heavy gold and also we tend to gift a bracelet or small pin with a fish when there is a new born ." Their brand is designed for the ' contemporary, chic and courages ’ woman, and the unique designs in the Wishbone and Cyrene colle...

Amna AlSalem's Fall 2015 Collection

Amna AlSalem is not a new name to my blog and to fashion-loving people within our region. Her previous collection received a shining stamp of approval from one of Kuwait's biggest high-end luxury store AlOthman a few seasons ago with the release of an exclusive-to-Kuwait collection for the retailer, drawing upon her signature silhouettes and ready-to-wear successes. For her new collection, Amna stayed true to her feminine signature style with a hint of playfulness through cut, shapes, and colors. Here's what the designer has shared with Confashions from Kuwait in regards to her latest collection.... Amna AlSalem's collection is inspired by Henri Matisse's masterpiece, The Dessert: Harmony in Red . This painting was originally commissioned as ' Harmony in Blue ' but Matisse was dissatisfied with the result, and so he painted it over with his preferred red. Amna AlSalem was attached to the sense of joie de vivre the painting interprets, wi...

Oumnia by Nivine Maktabi

If you love modern and unique carpets, you're probably familiar with the name Lebanese designer Nivine Maktabi . Having studied the History of Carpets and Textiles at Sotheby’s institute in London UK, Maktabi decided to introduce Carpets and Kelim Culture with a design touch adding her own creations influenced by her Middle Eastern background. In 2006 she had launched her concept store, Oumnia in Saifi Village Beirut, specializing in handwoven Tribal & Decorative carpets, and embroidered vintage/contemporary multipurpose textiles suiting modern and western interiors. She also creates designs executed on bespoke handmade carpets and then transferring the same pattern on pashmina cashmere shawls, which I think is quite genius! Can you image sending or receiving such a bespoke gift as a home welcome gesture *hint hint to my parents*? You can find out more by clicking here .

I had too much to dream last night...

Bahrain-based designer Amal Al Mulla smartly makes her fall collection debut with buzzy and whimsical designs. That was my first though as I skimmed through her lookbook which was sent to me by e-mail. For Fall 2015, Amal Al Mulla continues the visionary story line created for the brand and knots her girl this season towards a winter haze full of wonder state of mind, with an undeniably quirky aesthetic. The collection entitled ‘ I had too much to dream last night ’ is inspired by that one moment between dreaming and awake, and that concept of exploring the imperfections and perfections of such a particular moment. The pieces are designed in an array of neutral winter tones from Pale Greens, Light Grays and Creamy Whites that clash in contrast of darker shades such as Jet Blacks and Forest Greens. The brand’s primary aesthetic of strong contrast still visible within, structured silhouettes and straight cuts shaped in knits and wool play a role against relaxed ple...
