Home Modern Home

My recent visit to  dar.nur was not only mt first visit to the store's new location but also it was my first time to walk around the beautifully structured  Seven Zones center in Shuwaikh. The center is supposed to be a hub for all interior and design related stores. Even though the center is quite huge, there weren't many stores open yet. However, I did find some interesting pieces on display at some of the new stores over there. Like the rope retro-like chair shown on the above photo which I have spotted at a store called Home Accessories (I think!). I also liked the below accordion-like table... I took the below photos from another shop called Jars which had a nice selection of modern vases, traditional pots with a modern or floral twist, artificial flower arrangements, and paintings.

Visiting Nur

dar.nur , the brainchild of Kuwaiti entrepreneur Noor Al Zabin , has long been one of the pioneering “it” shops for shabby chic, retro, and unique home accessories in Kuwait. And ever since it  has moved from its old location to a bigger and better shop in Shuwaikh's Seven Zones Mall, I haven't had the chance to visit it until recently.  And I'm glad I did! I think they have expanded  their selection, because now they have everything for in and around the home.  The well-edited collection includes furniture, rugs, dishes, art, books, lighting, stationary . . . pretty much anything you could ask for to turn a bland house into a cozy and hip home. You can also find great gift ideas for those who have everything. Featured here are some of my favorite pieces available currently at the store. To find out more about dar.nur , visit their website or facebook page . For additional inquires, please call (965) 22258699. I can’t take my eyes off these incredible giant bean...

The Adrenaline Rush at Louboutin

So I have finally managed to visit Louboutin's new boutique at Salhiya Complex. BIIIG mistake. Why? Well, dear shoeholics, I ended up wanting to buy not one, not two, but THREE pairs of shoes!!! What the hell! I do like a few Louboutin styles but lately I haven't been a HUGE fan! What is wrong with me! It seems that I left my sanity at the passenger seat before I stepped into the mall! Thank god I came back to my senses after a few.. ahem.. calculations.  And decided to sleep on it and see how I felt about it a day later. I must limit myself to ONE pair only. May the force be with me!

Pretty Prints

When I go shopping at the Avenues, I usually cover most high street stores in Phase I (or as I like to call them the Usual Suspects), and I keep forgetting that we actually do have a Warehouse branch in Kuwait INSIDE of Debenhams . I remember Warehouse 's first store in Souk Sharg several years back. It was one of my favorite spots to shop for trends for less, and I was so bummed when it shut down. Recently a sales lady mentioned Warehouse to me and it hit me that there is a special corner for Warehouse at Debenhams ! So I went there to check it out.  The selection is somewhat similar to Miss Selfridge, and I did find a couple of pieces covered in pretty prints. Check them out! This print reminded me Parisian brand Leonard The below print was on a pair of wide leg pants. Nice!

Feathers and Leathers

It seems I'm on a roll! Posting about statement necklaces! And here's another post I'm sure you'll like as well. If the name Maryam Keyhani sounds familiar? You have probably read her profile on The Coverteur . The talented Canadian designer has recently debuted her new collection of light-weight neck-pieces. To describe them as "statement" pieces would be an under statement, no pun intended. These are really a stunning and modern collection of dainty yet opulent necklaces and I especially love the organic element of the pieces by incorporating feathers and leather to the designs. And you know what's exciting? These gorgeous necklaces can be found in K-town! Yup, you can purchase  Maryam Keyhani 's collection at  B Villa , located at Al Bidde behind Al Zumurruda Hall, Villa #7.

Just Like Celine?

I spotted these printed pants and top at H&M the other day (which desperately need to be ironed!) and they instantly reminded me of Celine's runway looks from the brand's Spring 2011 collection. The top was priced at KD 9.900. I can't remember how much the price for the pants were. But I'm pretty sure they won't break the bank! *Runway photos from Style.com

Getting Medical

After posting about the Chill Pill necklace by Mar Mar , one of my readers introduced me to an über-chic accessories brand called Cast of Vices   which also found its inspiration in the most unusual places: The medical cabinet AND flies! As soon as I googled the brand, and viewed its super cool collections, I instantly fell in love it (Thanks Shahad!). Valium necklace anyone?

Video: Fatima Al-Naqi Make up Academy

Remember my post on Fatima Al Naqi's Make up Academy ? Well the talented Fatima has shared with me this video clip of her work and some photos of her current space at the Academy shown below. I think the clip is more about the artistic and dramatic side of Make-up rather than the common perspective we have about make-up. Slightly eerie but in a cool artistic way. You can find out more about Fatima Al Naqi's Make up Academy by clicking here .

Statement Oscar

And from statement collars to statement necklaces! Check out this beyond stunning necklace by Oscar de la Renta . This piece promises to add a dash of sparkle and a whole lot of glam to any outfit. And that shade of emerald green! Sigh! My greatest weakness! Price tag? I think around KD 175. Available at Al Othman .

Confashions Featured on Boutique 1's Site

I have been recently interviewed by one of my favorite online shopping destinations for high-end fashion Boutique 1 for their online feature " In the Know ", where I talked about the evolution of Arab shoppers, the influence of digital fashion, and shared some of my favorite Boutique 1 picks of the new season. You can click here to read all about it.

Cute Collar

Collars are this season's most unconventional statement accessory. I spotted this cute peter pan pearl-embellished collar (trying saying that 3 times fast!) at H&M the other day and it reminded me of Emma Watson's pearl collar on the cover of I-D magazine . I wish the collar came in sizes becuase when I tried it on it was too big. Oh well.. the search is still on... Update: I just found out from LadyB that she posted about it too. Check it out here .
