News: Muscat Fashion Week 2012

The second Muscat Fashion Week wrapped up last week at Riyam Park as designers from Oman and neighboring countries presented their takes on the Arab woman 2012. Seema Sangra, one of the journalists covering Muscat Fashion Week was kind enough to share with me these photos taken during this year's event showcasing the creativity and the diversity of Middle-Eastern and South Asian fashion designers who participated in MFW, such as Kubra Al QaseerAyesha Depala, Nawal Al Hooti, Amina Al Jassim, and Hanaa Al-Wahaibi to name a few. Seema also provided me with a brief description of some of the featured designers and their work. Scroll down to read what more on Seema's guest post.

Colorful and traditional designs by Amina Al Jassim, a Saudi Arabian fashion designer of haute couture and jellabiyas who presented her line during the first day of Muscat Fashion Week. Her choice of vibrant colors, smooth flowing fabrics and silver accessories added to the true Arabian Princess Style in her designs.

Aysha Depala, Dubai-based Indian designer participated for the first time in Muscat Fashion week. She presented 20 of her current couture pieces, which included a few bridal pieces too. The collection is a selection of short and long dresses mainly in tulle and lace which had hand embellished and hand appliquéd details with delicate beads and crystals. The entire collection had ‘girly look’-with lots of frills and laces. Ayesha Depala has indeed firmly put her stamp on the International fashion scene.

Omani designer Amal Al Raisi established her boutique in 2007 after her first fashion show at the Muscat Festival. Her boutique, Dar Alaseel, is an exclusive shop, which caters for today’s Omani woman. She creates traditional Omani bridal wear and evening jalabiyas, all with a modern accent.

Kubra Al Qaseer is one of the biggest names in Bahrain’s fashion industry,  Her designs were a combination of traditional Arabic styles with a touch of flamboyance and modern Western influences.

Saks In Bahrain

I went to Saks Fifth Avenue store in Bahrain. The two-level store is located in City Centre Mall and has a collection of American and international clothes designers for Men and Women as well as jewelry, accessories, handbags, fragrances, cosmetics, intimate apparel, bridal, and children's apparel. However, I was slightly disappointed by the small selection, maybe because all items were on sale? Or the number and variety of brands were limited? Anyhow, my favourite section at Saks - Bahrain was Saks's world-famous 10022-SHOE salon (shown in the photo below). It had the same look & feel of the NY's shoe salon but of course not the same space. The Shoe Salon had really nice selection and they were all on sale! I have been told by Saks Sales Assistant that they will be hosting numerous special events throughout the year such as fashion shows and personal appearances by designers. Now that's something I'd be interested in! In addition, they currently offer in-st
