Every pre-Ramadan season, I do my homework and search for a reasonably priced caftans that do not resemble an art project of 1st grade student. I usually buy a couple of casual ones and one dressy caftan. And this year, this process has been a difficult one due to many factors like the lack of creativity, the overpricing thing, and a whole lot of copying. A fellow bloggerista said something very interesting to me that I felt it summed up how I feel towards the work of SOME “designers” (I repeat: SOME), She said: “I have neither the stamina nor the patience to sift through the trashy tailoring, the mismatching schemes, and the nasty details that seem to have invaded the Kaftans scene in the past few years. I want something simple and classy”. And I agree. However I have to state that I do like some of the mismatching schemes, the ones that are done in a refined and classy way by veeeeery few local entrepreneurs/designers. Anyways, that said. I did find a simple and meticulously tailored sleeveless caftan (darra’a) with a fully embroidered matching robe at DarUsha by Raghed Collection. Nothing out of the ordinary here, just a simple design than can be accessorized with a statement necklace and belt to give it that chic finish and some definition. Et voilà!
That is the question. It took me a whole season to finally tell these two brands apart, and this season, there's no mistake, each brand is now engraved in my fashion database like a personalized Tiffany's pen. And this Resort 2015 season, I'm head over heels with their flats, on display now at AlOthman Boutique . Altuzarra's version comes in a tonal-gray water snake and are decorated with beige shells, red beads and silver sequins. Aquazzura's lace-up sandals come in a beautiful shade of apple green, and will work with white or bright colored casual summer outfit. After much thought and sole-searching, I have decided to go for the Altuzarra sandals. They're safely stored in my closet, waiting for the dust and the cold to go away. Which pair would you go for?
