Donna Karan Soon at Salhiya Complex

Donna Karan boutique will be opening in October 2008 at Salhiya Complex (Mezzanine 2, next to American Retro and opposite to Kenzo). I hope they'll be getting the latest collection and not what's available in their old stock. Especially the evening wear, as I've started to appreciate some of Donna Karan's silhouettes, some of them can be incredibly sensual and classic chic pieces. Speaking of which, I can't remember the last time I bought from this brand. Let's just hope that this season would see more creatively designed uber-chic items.

darlings middle class women cannot afford $1.800/2.500dresses.. Donna Karan has evolved in the past couple of years, the brand is very upscale, using only ultra fine fabrics that Donna makes sure they feel soft & luxurious against the female body. This is a no fuss brand- purely refined for a subtle lady.

Donna Karan ib Macy's and Bloomies? WTF? No offense, but it's pretty up there will all the top designers. Of course, not everyone wears Donna Karan because it has clients that love the cuts and silhouettes. Dresses start at over $2000. Check out the collection online at Net-a-Porter and Neiman Marcus. I just went to a wedding in June and wore this GORGEOUS long, red dress with a plunging neckline. It was exquisite. I'm only 20, but I appreciate high fashion and I certainly know that "middle class Caucasian women" don't wear Donna Karan. Even DKNY has been cute as of late. I love the dresses, as they're very casual and chic!

If they're getting their Bond St type merchandise then it's going to be out of this world. Donna Karan understands what a woman really wants.

So did Jimmy Choos have to face the axe to make way for what's her face - Donna Karan ?
When's the ultra-soft opening happening then? You bet we are all invited, right? Funny how D.K. forgot to hand me an invite at the NYFW even when there was such a tattle doing the rounds with the front rowers there.
Wouldn't it be marveleux having a Madeleine Vionnet flagship store open shop right beside Donna K in Salhiya? Will give an edge to the Battle Royale between European couture and American on foreign soil.

In the Middle East, European brands always win over American brands.
Except for maybe Juicy Couture.

When luxury shops started opening everywhere in the GCC they all satrted with Calvin Klein, Armani and Donna Karan.
at that tim ein the early 90's, American brands dominated big time. Now, they are struggeling more than ever to make a big a statement as the European brands
I mean:

Dolce Prada Armani Etro Marni Gucci Dior Vuitton
VS.
Donna Karan Calvin Klein Isaac Mizirahi Kenneth Cole Tommy Hilfiger Michael Kors Ralph Lauren

Who do you think would win!!!?!?!?!

Whoa! there's a great deal of designer name throwing going on there.
Given how people's mind sets and sensibilities in the AGCC are more in tune with India than with the rest of Europe or the US I think Indian labels more than European or US designer labels would sit well with the Khaleeji fashionistas.

Manav Gangwani, Ritu Kumar, Ritu Berri, Hemant Sagar, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Aki Nirula et al.

versus.

Christian Lacroix, Zandra Rhodes,Ungaro, Moschino,Hermes, Pringle of Scotland etc.

Now you tell me : who do you think would win???
:)
P.S. Ana hindeya but all my life I've always been a sucker for Japanese designer labels.

Saks In Bahrain

I went to Saks Fifth Avenue store in Bahrain. The two-level store is located in City Centre Mall and has a collection of American and international clothes designers for Men and Women as well as jewelry, accessories, handbags, fragrances, cosmetics, intimate apparel, bridal, and children's apparel. However, I was slightly disappointed by the small selection, maybe because all items were on sale? Or the number and variety of brands were limited? Anyhow, my favourite section at Saks - Bahrain was Saks's world-famous 10022-SHOE salon (shown in the photo below). It had the same look & feel of the NY's shoe salon but of course not the same space. The Shoe Salon had really nice selection and they were all on sale! I have been told by Saks Sales Assistant that they will be hosting numerous special events throughout the year such as fashion shows and personal appearances by designers. Now that's something I'd be interested in! In addition, they currently offer in-st

The Villa Moda Movenpick Luxury Sale is an event all savvy shoppers and bargain hunters look forward to as it's a chance to get the best deals from the most wanted designer labels. The sale will showcase clothes and accessories from Spring/Summer 2008 collection and some going back to Fall 2007 collection (and even older). And all throughout Ramadan from 10 AM until 2 PM and from 7:30 PM until 12:30 AM. The women’s section will be in a tent just outside the Mövenpick. As for men’s, it will be in the Villa Moda Shuwaikh warehouse just behind the building. Signs are displayed for directions. You better be quick and go and grab all you want in the very first days before the good stuff/sizes are gone.
