Recycled Statement

Remember the art piece that I really liked during my visit to REUSE 5.0 exposition a couple of months back? (previous post here) The one that had the following quote? "Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it"? Well, the creative brain behind it, Ms. Jena Al-Awadhi who also happens to be a university students, has sent me these featured photos of her latest project of designing statement necklaces.

She has made three statement necklaces each representing a different material: metal, paper, plastic to promote recycling. The metal bib necklace is made entirely from scratch out of aluminum sheet for a base and then I attached nuts, bolts, nails and any scraps of metal she could get her hands on. The plastic is made out of legos and the paper bib necklace is made out of... well paper from magazines! Jena's collection was exhibited at an event at The Scientific Center to launch their first environment-friendly 3D IMAX film.

"I am obsessed with jewelry/accessories, especially statement necklaces! I'm planning on creating statement necklaces with a similar concept that could be wearable! And I plan on donating 50% of the proceeds to Bayt Abdullah Inshallah", expressed Jena.

I'm very proud to see such talent, enthusiasm, and commitment by a young Kuwaiti girl. Kudos Jena for setting a good example to your generation.  If you wish to contact Ms. Jena Al-Awadhi, you can send her an email at j.e.n.a@live.com

Miu Miu Pays Tribute to the Middle East

Everyone who knows me, knows that I have a soft spot for bag charms. They're fun, cute, and add a dose of irresistible character to your plain handbag. So when I got the news about Miu Miu paying tribute to the Middle Eastern culture by presenting an exclusive playful yet multifunctional accessories in luxurious precious skin, I got excited intrigued. The round-shaped charms has the Arabic alphabet, each piece presenting a letter design with metallic hues and vibrant colors. They're cute, nothing groundbreaking. I'm not sure if these bags charms would step up my bag charms game, but I guess it depends on their price tag and how "exclusively" exclusive they are. Maybe they'll grow on me? I don't know... What do you think? The charms should be available exclusively in  Miu Miu   Boutiques throughout our region.
