A Memorable Night... Thank You Japan

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Japanese Taiko Drum Concert hosted by the Embassy of Japan in cooperation with the National Council for Culture, Arts, and letters. The concert was part of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Kuwaiti-Japanese diplomatic relations. It was held at Abdul Aziz Hussein theater in Mishref, and I just have to take this opportunity to express how much I loved it and how much I loved the courteous and warm welcome of the Japanese hosts.

The performance started with a small speech by Japan’s ambassador in Kuwait, which he did in Arabic and I was very impressed by that. The audience loved this gesture and gave him a strong applause. And then the performance started (scroll down for a preview of the clip).

The band, which consisted of a Taiko drummer, a violinist, and a saxophonist, gave a stunning and a powerful performance mixing traditional Japanese drum ensembles with modern sounds. Their energy and passion was truly infectious. I especially loved the band’s exceptional drumming skills. It was like nothing I have ever seen before, truly a musical piece of art The concert really got me thinking into choosing Japan as my next travel destination.

The only thing I was disappointed by was the fact that there was a weak audience turnout. It’s a shame! The event was announced in the newspapers and a couple of other blogs, plus admission is free, one would expect a stronger turnout. Anyways, there will be another performance by the band tonight at 7:30 PM. So how about you kick start the long weekend with some cultural dose?

Magical Mode

As anyone who regularly reads Confashions may know, there are some designers I’ve been obsessed with for quite some time: one is the genius Erdem , the other is Nicholas Kirkwood , and Pierre Hardy . And because their designs are somehow easily accessible online and offline, I had the pleasure of featuring some of their creations and showing them the love they deserve. That said, there is one designer I’ve been particularly smitten with for quite some time. He has always been on the top of my favorite designers list ever since I was introduced to his designs by my fabulous fellow fashionisto Adnan Z Manjal a couple of years back : Saudi designer Mohammed Ashi . I always wished I featured him more. I couldn’t because his pieces are very exclusive and as far as I know not stocked anywhere here. Miu Miu Pays Tribute to the Middle East

Everyone who knows me, knows that I have a soft spot for bag charms. They're fun, cute, and add a dose of irresistible character to your plain handbag. So when I got the news about Miu Miu paying tribute to the Middle Eastern culture by presenting an exclusive playful yet multifunctional accessories in luxurious precious skin, I got excited intrigued. The round-shaped charms has the Arabic alphabet, each piece presenting a letter design with metallic hues and vibrant colors. They're cute, nothing groundbreaking. I'm not sure if these bags charms would step up my bag charms game, but I guess it depends on their price tag and how "exclusively" exclusive they are. Maybe they'll grow on me? I don't know... What do you think? The charms should be available exclusively in Miu Miu Boutiques throughout our region.

Altuzarra or Aquazzura?

That is the question. It took me a whole season to finally tell these two brands apart, and this season, there's no mistake, each brand is now engraved in my fashion database like a personalized Tiffany's pen. And this Resort 2015 season, I'm head over heels with their flats, on display now at AlOthman Boutique . Altuzarra's version comes in a tonal-gray water snake and are decorated with beige shells, red beads and silver sequins. Aquazzura's lace-up sandals come in a beautiful shade of apple green, and will work with white or bright colored casual summer outfit. After much thought and sole-searching, I have decided to go for the Altuzarra sandals. They're safely stored in my closet, waiting for the dust and the cold to go away. Which pair would you go for?
