Clutches with Character

Clutch bags with a character create a spectacular finishing touches to day or night outfits. I spotted this very retro sublime and slightly over-sized clutch at Dries Van Noten Boutique in Al Thurraya Complex in Salmiya. I love the color combination used on the exotic leather. But you if you're looking for more budget friendly version, check out the one below from Zara . Very impressive ha? I also found this clutch/makeup bag decorated with skulls and studs at Zara too. But wait... is that.. a missing skull on the far right corner of the clutch? I think it is! Oh well.. it looked nice at first. I hope who ever end up buying it won't be get charged full price!

Dear Confashion: Keswah's New A/W 2012 Collection

Keswah , the brainchild of three Emarati girls who have joined forces to create their own fashion label in contemporary caftans and whom I have previously featured here , have shared with me their new lookbook of Keswah 's latest A/W 2012 collection. What impressed me was the fact that they not only have managed to present a simple yet très chic collection and a beautifully designed lookbook, but also have taken matters under their hands, from setting the photoshoot, hair, and makeup, to styling and even video editing , which to me looked quite professional. Kudos to Keswah .   For more information, please send an email to info@keswah.com .

An Attempt to Get Out

I spotted this art piece on the entrance of Abdul Aziz Hussein Theater in Mishref, when I attended the Japanese Taiko Drum Concert , and thought sharing its beauty with my art-loving readers. This sculpture was created by Kuwaiti artist Sami Mohammed in 1978 and it's titled An Attempt to Get Out . I have previously featured his work here .  Such a masterpiece, evoking many strong emotions and questions. The artist held an exhibition last month at Gallery Tilal , and you can find out more about the artist here .

Lovely Lara

In the midst of the rapid growth of new and emerging fashion designers in our region, whether talented or talentless, it’s always a treat to find someone who can produce the same, if not better, quality and creativity of high-end designer brands. Allow me to introduce you to a new Beirut-based talent: Lara Khoury . Lara Khoury , a 26 year old ESMOD graduate with a strong passion for designing couture-like pieces, has joined fashion designer Elie Saab in Beirut in September 2006 to learn more about this mesmerizing industry. Fast forward to 2009, Lara became one of the few designers chosen by renowned Labense fashion designer Rabih Kayrouz to be a part of Starch Boutique in Beirut, a laboratory of new ideas, and showroom for contemporary young Lebanese designers. In 2010, Lara Khoury found the assurance to launch her first collection; and opened her own studio and workshop in the heart of Beirut. Her Spring 2011 collection was recently launched among friends and esteemed guests. ...

A Memorable Night... Thank You Japan

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Japanese Taiko Drum Concert hosted by the Embassy of Japan in cooperation with the National Council for Culture, Arts, and letters. The concert was part of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Kuwaiti-Japanese diplomatic relations. It was held at Abdul Aziz Hussein theater in Mishref, and I just have to take this opportunity to express how much I loved it and how much I loved the courteous and warm welcome of the Japanese hosts. The performance started with a small speech by Japan’s ambassador in Kuwait, which he did in Arabic and I was very impressed by that. The audience loved this gesture and gave him a strong applause.  And then the performance started (scroll down for a preview of the clip). The band, which consisted of a Taiko drummer, a violinist, and a saxophonist, gave a stunning and a powerful performance mixing traditional Japanese drum ensembles with modern sounds. Their energy and passion was t...
