Webby Wednesday: SketchBookMagazine.com

Sketchbook is a quarterly print and online magazine that showcases established and emerging creative talents in fashion, design and culture. Currently one of the first and only magazines dedicated to illustrations, specifically in the fashion industry, the magazine promotes a more behind-the-scenes take on the fashion and design industry as a whole.  Sketchbook's debut issue came as the first to explore the cultural phenomenon of blogging from its roots to its major players.

Founded in the heart of Notting Hill, 23-year-old Bahraini born Wafa Alobaidat aimed to create an independent publication that was creative, playful and did not take itself too seriously. Experiencing fashion and art in her 5 years of living in London and through her blog Fashion Ambitions, the magazine-aholic dreamed of buying a publication from the shelves rich with illustrations, drawings and images that celebrated young individuals’ talents; these talents who were at the forefront of their careers, experimenting with creative ideas in their labs and studios.

When Wafa couldn’t find what she was looking for, she created it herself, putting together a team of 150+ individuals who contributed and got involved with the first issue, an homage to Style Bubble, her fashion icon and all her favorite fashion bloggers.

Sketchbook Magazine can be purchased and previewed online here.

Confashions I love your blog and read it rigorously.
This must be my first comment, but I just had to say it.
I knew Wafa personally and...

She is horrible to work with and I wouldn't consider her as a untrustworthy person.

I don't know Wafa personally, I'm only here to appreciate her work, and from what I have seen so far, it's just amazing to see such work being done from someone from our GCC region.

I appreciate and admire her efforts in embracing new ideas and designers by providing a platform for new talent. She is a great example to all young individuals who want to follow their passion.

Wafa, you are truly a great inspiration.

Sketchbook Magazine is awesome! I have been a loyal fan since day 1, when it was only a concept. I am extremely proud of the Editor's accomplishments, wafa you know your great!
I'd just like to add that I do know wafa personally and have been working with her a while now, and she is a wonderful person and excellent co-worker.
And I must add how rude it is to say such things about a person on such a great post.

Saks In Bahrain

I went to Saks Fifth Avenue store in Bahrain. The two-level store is located in City Centre Mall and has a collection of American and international clothes designers for Men and Women as well as jewelry, accessories, handbags, fragrances, cosmetics, intimate apparel, bridal, and children's apparel. However, I was slightly disappointed by the small selection, maybe because all items were on sale? Or the number and variety of brands were limited? Anyhow, my favourite section at Saks - Bahrain was Saks's world-famous 10022-SHOE salon (shown in the photo below). It had the same look & feel of the NY's shoe salon but of course not the same space. The Shoe Salon had really nice selection and they were all on sale! I have been told by Saks Sales Assistant that they will be hosting numerous special events throughout the year such as fashion shows and personal appearances by designers. Now that's something I'd be interested in! In addition, they currently offer in-st

Event: Villa Moda Movenpick Luxury Sale

The Villa Moda Movenpick Luxury Sale is an event all savvy shoppers and bargain hunters look forward to as it's a chance to get the best deals from the most wanted designer labels. The sale will showcase clothes and accessories from Spring/Summer 2008 collection and some going back to Fall 2007 collection (and even older). Believe me when I tell you there are some real bargains as all items will discounted with a whopping 60% or more. The event will start tomorrow Saturday and will be open to the public 10 AM to 10 PM. And all throughout Ramadan from 10 AM until 2 PM and from 7:30 PM until 12:30 AM. The women’s section will be in a tent just outside the Mövenpick. As for men’s, it will be in the Villa Moda Shuwaikh warehouse just behind the building. Signs are displayed for directions. You better be quick and go and grab all you want in the very first days before the good stuff/sizes are gone.
