Confashions From Kuwait

If you've been following me on instagram @confashions , you probably know by now that the always impeccably dressed, and one of my favorite fashion bloggers in the region, Dana of  TheOverdressed was in K-town over the weekend. Dana visited Kuwait to assist her lovely sister Reem of Green Bar , who happens to be one of the participants of Qout Market , Kuwait's official farmer's market. I have previously featured  Green Bar  on my blog here and here , and I'm officially obsessed with their face elixir and the botanical protein Hair Revitalizing Oil. Anyhow, I passed by their hotel to pick them up and headed to Boutique N since they've never been to it before, and we had some time for retail therapy before heading out for dinner. If Stella Jean and Cacharel had a love child, this collection would be it! created by a Saudi Arabia fashion designer Nasiba Hafiz , her line is inspired by one of the most feminine decades in fashion, the 1950s. Nasiba's muse for the collections was Egyptian actress Faten Hamama , a woman that personified class and style the same way Audrey Hepburn did for Western cinema.  Her first collection, which was stocked at NASS boutique a few months ago and sold out like hot cakes, is driven by the whimsical and playful siluhette of the 1950s. I've been meaning to post about AlOthman's newly relocated boutique but have been quite busy lately. Today I have finally managed to take photos of the new boutique, which is still located at Maryam Complex, but now it's where Guess and The Basement (the huge kids store) used to be. The space is mega huge! It officially looks like a luxury department store. Every category of clothing and accessories is neatly grouped and displayed in a dedicated area. My favorite section has to be the accessories area of course, I could easily spend hours trying on shoes and custom jewelry.  Designed by talented Kuwaiti Architect  Nesef Al Nesef , the store's interior and space is ultra modern and classy. There seemed to be literally thousands of lights, because the place looked so bright with a luminous sparkle. The first thing you see when you come in is the drool-worthy mind blowing Fur section, which I'll thoroughly check out when the budget allows. I...

I just found out through a friend that Parisien brand  Hotel Particulier 's store has been open for quite sometime in The Avenues Phase II. I've heard of the brand before, I think they used to be stocked at net-a-porter.com,  and is currently stocked at Harvey Nichols Kuwait too, but never bought from it. So I decided to check the store out. According to brand's bio on their website, the philosophy behind the brand is accessible luxury fashion for women who demand cutting edge design with wearable pieces. The store is located in the same strip where Salad Boutique is, opposite to Shoebox NY. The selection on display incorporated a combination of fur, leather, cashmere and silk into its designs. I liked some of the fur vests on display, but I think they were mainly fox fur. I liked there selection of leather pieces, which unfortunately I did not take photos of, but you can have an idea by clicking here .

Earlier tonight I passed by Bayt Lothan to check out Visual Therapy's  2nd art show titled Waraq , a paper based art exhibition by a group of talented local artists such as Deena Qabazard , F160 , Shahad Al Asfoor, Wael Al Khars, and Mohammed Al Kouh. Waraq  seeks to explore the unconventional use of the paper medium. You'll see different and unique techniques used including cutting, folding, and even carving. Different paper based items, such as newspaper, are also utilized. Through this, Waraq intends to reexamine the identity of the paper medium revealing its potential to take on a variety of forms. I'm familiar with the creative work done by  Deena Qabazard   and  F160 ,  however the rest of the artists were new to me, I especially loved Shahad Al Asfoor's work, shown in the photo above. The attention to detail is just mind-blowing, I felt the amount of time and effort put in making these pieces is just insane. Definitely...

A few months ago, my sister was vacationing in France and stumbled upon an old French Elle magazine from the 1950s at an old bookstore. Knowing how much I love fashion and appreciate vintage she bought one copy as a gift for me. Needless to say I was over-the-moon! According to wikipedia ,  Elle  was founded by Pierre Lazareff and his wife Hélène Gordon in 1945. The title, in French, means "She". As I skimmed through its old and delicate pages, I really felt like owning a piece of fashion history from what is now the world's largest fashion magazine! The magazine also makes a fantastic inspiration for people in the industry, there’s lots of great fashion photography and fantastic advertisements. I was surprised to see how huge the trend of wearing plaid was back then. Fashion really goes through the same cycle huh?
