Event: The 6th International Islamic Arts Convention at Kuwait's Grand Mosque

I have finally managed to visit the 6th International Islamic Arts Convention held currently at Kuwait's Grand Mosque, thanks to my dear friend who took me to the convention. I've been to the one they hosted in 2012, previous post here, and I enjoyed it so much that I didn't want to miss out on this one.

The convention was a great opportunity to highlight the significance of Islamic arts in our region. According to one of the organizers who guided us throughout the convention, the participants were over 80 Muslim artists and calligraphers from Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, US, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Jordan, Oman and Azerbaijan. The conventions was segmented into various sections, each dedicated to showcase the various Islamic art activities like Arabic calligraphy, ebru, illumination, marbling and ornamentation as well as holding lectures and workshops on all sorts of traditional Islamic arts and crafts with a focus on prayer rug design and weaving as the main theme of this exhibition.

Scroll down for the highlights of the convention. If interested, The Islamic Art Exhibition in the Grand Mosque will be on until Thursday 9th January 2014 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. You can also find out more by following the organizers on instagram at @kwislamicarts

An artwork by Irani artist Elaheh Khatami. Price tag? Around $8,000

An arabic calligraphy artwork by Iraqi artist Sabah AlArbilli

Stunning arabic calligraphy by Egyptian artist Ahmed Faris

My absolute favorite artwork by Iranian artist Azra Bakhshayeshi.. If I'm not mistaken this was priced at $10,000. Worth every penny I'd say! My 2nd favorite is the first photo featured here on this post by the same artist. That one was priced at $8,000.

I'm trying to remember the name of the talented Chinese artist who drew arabic letter and words but in a Chinese way but I completely forgot! Check out one of his works in the photo below! Amazing, no?

Beyond stunning Kilim rug made from pure silk by Turkish crafter Mousa Kazim Bazaran. This one was priced at $5,000.

Loved the weaved handbags, they'd be perfect for the Summer!

Saks In Bahrain

I went to Saks Fifth Avenue store in Bahrain. The two-level store is located in City Centre Mall and has a collection of American and international clothes designers for Men and Women as well as jewelry, accessories, handbags, fragrances, cosmetics, intimate apparel, bridal, and children's apparel. However, I was slightly disappointed by the small selection, maybe because all items were on sale? Or the number and variety of brands were limited? Anyhow, my favourite section at Saks - Bahrain was Saks's world-famous 10022-SHOE salon (shown in the photo below). It had the same look & feel of the NY's shoe salon but of course not the same space. The Shoe Salon had really nice selection and they were all on sale! I have been told by Saks Sales Assistant that they will be hosting numerous special events throughout the year such as fashion shows and personal appearances by designers. Now that's something I'd be interested in! In addition, they currently offer in-st
