Confashions From Kuwait

This summer, the ad campaigns of Dolce and Gabbana , featured these beautiful sunglasses decorated with ceramic flowers at the corners. I thought to myself, we won't be seeing those in K-town! But to my surprise, I found them right there starting back at me at Eye Boutique , which is located at the Avenues and 360 Mall. Needless to say that I instantly fell in love.  The sunglasses came in three styles. Each pair of sunglasses has exquisite multi-coloured roses, apparently the favorite flower of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, adorning each frame and temple. Each petal has been molded and applied by hand with such exquisite craftsmanship.  I'm still contemplating on which one to get. In any case, these will surely be a pair of shades you won’t go unnoticed in this summer!

Jeddah-based fashion accessories brand  Fyunka ,  created by Alaa Balkhy, unveiled her new summer collection of PVC and canvas bags. I find her illustrations to be fun and amusing, they're are influenced by pop culture and inspired by Middle Eastern insights. I think they add a certain charm and effortless cool yet quirky style to caftans and off-duty looks. Featured here, exclusively to Confashions from Kuwait, are  Fyunka 's  beautifully shot summer campaign. 

Net-a-Porter  will be exclusively launching the Tokidoki x Karl Lagerfeld capsule collection. Available from July 1, 2013, the collection will be sold exclusively online at  Net-a-Porter  and the Karl Lagerfeld concept stores in Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris and comprises of three look-a-like character dolls and a ready-to-wear collection.

They're here!! Altuzarra smooth leather gladiator sandals embellished with beaded leaf appliqués, and designed in collaboration with Gianvitto Rossi . They'd been on my Net-a-Porter's wish list forever! ( ok!  3 months but it felt forever) and when they announced their international sale, well - I couldn't exactly just leave them there, languishing on my wish list, could I...? My sisters thought they were too daring and impractical, but as a life long member of S.A. (Shoe-a-holics Anonymous) I tend to take my footwear absurdly serious and sometimes "practical" is not good enough as an excuse for  not  buying a pair I'm lusting for. Anyways, I can't wait to do an Outfit of the Day post with these new babies.

I had to narrow down my selection to this so that I don't bore on with all of the items on my wish list! Let's start with the outfits shown above, shall we? -From left to right:   Michael van der Ham's  silk-blend multi-print  dress , what I love about it is that it looks as if you're layering 3 or 4 pieces when actually it's a one dress! genius. - Lanvin's  flared godet skirt , the shape is TDF! I've said it a zillion time before and I'll say it again, I can't seem to have enough of Ek Thongprasert necklaces! Everytime I convince myself that I'm over them, and then I end up buying one more! This is cray cray! I have already ordered one from Moda Operandi and waiting for it to be shipped. And just a few days ago I spotted new selection at Boutique N . I was thiiiis close to buy both the rose pink studded necklace and the mint green one too (shown below and above). Intricately crafted silicone shapes in pretty candy colors, how could I possibly resist?!! But right there and then the sales lady showsed me another design colored in mint green and mixed with copperish details and THAT stopped me in my tracks! Unfortunately I was too excited about it that I forgot to take a photo of it, but I will share it with you in one of my Outfit of the Day posts or instagram . I was like THIS IS IT!!! I WANT IT! And I got it.

Last week I was invited to the soft-opening of a multi-brand boutique Blue Butterfly . The clean and minimalist interior of this little gem, tucked away in the basement of Burj Jassim in Kuwait City, stocks  several of under-the-radar international designers such as Russian brand Alexander Kondakov , Turkish brand Boz Sister and Italian brand Benedetta Bruzziches to name a few, which offer an edgy spin on the basics. In addition to that, the boutique also carries a pretty selection of caftans and pieces designed by local talents such as bynouma and Simply M . I have been recently contacted by two lovely Kuwaiti jewelry designers Latifa and Dana Al Bader who wanted to introduce me to their jewelry brand called  Daimanti , which means diamond in Italian. They have established the brand almost a year ago with the aim of providing special everyday contemporary classic pieces to be worn by the uber-chic girl. I like how each design looks so delicate and dainty, which makes them perfect to wear alone or paired with a zillion other piece. My favorite has to be the X and O rings featured in this post. I'm cheating I know, this is supposed to be a proper Outfit of the Day post but I couldn't be bothered to move or get off the couch. I had just came back from work and lay on my couch with my camera on my side. So forgive my lazy shot.  I bought this outfit from Nass boutique  (minus the clutch) a few weeks ago. I especially loved the printed skirt with peplum detail and a side-slit. It's designed by Lublu by Kira Plastinina , a Russian designer who's making it big in the fashion industry. Actually, her fall campaign was shot by THE street style photographer Tommy Ton and featured everyone’s favorite streets style darlings like The Man Repeller , Miroslava Duma , and Nasiba Adilova . Anyhow, I paired it with my striped top by A piece Apart , my super comfy shoes, and my Marni clutch. 

This has to be the most glamourous and chicest swimsuit I have ever seen! Zimmerman's silver-trimmed swimsuit with contrasting floral prints looks like as if it has been designed in the 50's, inspired by the likes of Esther Williams and Marilyn Monroe. I like the fact that you can match it up with a pair of boardshorts . These would definitely be my retro-chic vacation choice. I guess it’s never too late to plan that vacation, you know.

I love receiving emails from new brands and emerging designers introducing me to their designs.  It really feels like a treat to get a glimpse of their hard work and creativity. This was supposed to be an Outfit of the Day post, but then I was too mesmerized by the beauty and creativity surrounding me, that I forgot to take close-up shots of my outfit and settled for showcasing this beauty found at Kuwait's Museum of Modern Art . I have first visited it in 2007 and then again in 2011 (previous posts here and here ). Honestly I didn't expect to find new pieces added, but I was surprised to find this AMAZING huge mural in the museum's courtyard, which worked perfectly as a background for my below blogger pose. And then I bumped into the museum's curator who explained to me that this was a very recent project done by four Kuwaiti artists who completed the mural in less than a week. Unfortunately I can't remember their names, but when I find out who exactly, I'll update the post accordingly.
