Zahr Al Ward

Another local brand I've been obsessing about lately is Zahr Al Ward . A month ago I saw on her instagram a sneak peek of a caftan she's working on decorated with these adorable golden dragonflies. According to Wikipedia, in China, people associate dragonflies with prosperity, harmony and as good luck charms. Of course in my case I like them made out of metal. That's as close as I could get to any living creature (excluding humans of course). And also Kuwaiti culture, this insect is actually associated with positive vibes and good news. So if you happen to see one, that means you'll be hearing good news from family or friends. I'll share a proper photo of the caftan soon, but you can view the designer's work here .

Egyptian Exhibtion at Kuwait International Fairground

I've seen a lot of coverage about The Egyptian Exhibition at Kuwait International Fairground in Mishref by fellow bloggers and instagrammers, plus my aunt kept raving about it, so I decided to pay it a visit and see what the fuss is all about. First of all, the amount of cotton caftans I've seen by the many booth participating there was really insane and kind of repetitive. However, they all shared one main quality. Everything was SO CHEAP!! In value that is. I mean you could buy 4 cotton casual caftans for KD 20 only!! Mind you, not all had nice designs, but if you browsed hard, you might find a style or two that looked quite decent. Actually I was quite impressed by a couple of booths there. On was a booth for Syrian merchandise, which I ended up buying 4 caftans from mainly because I'm in love with hand embroidered cross-stitching (check out the photos above), and an African booth which sold all sorts of African accessories and nick-knacks. In fact, the Kenyan sales ...

Outfit of the Day

If this caftan by Kuwait-based brand Qamar wasn't a fancy piece, I would have worn it every single day! The photos really don't do it justice because of it's color. I loved how the trio designers behind Qamar designed this pieces using oversized mesh material, decorated with 3D leather florals and mixed it with the ruffle-like volumized hem that naturally moves and sways as you walk. Love it would be an understatement really! I paired it with my Nº21 knotted shoes, and my good ol' Chanel clutch.

Woman Rising: From Prisoners to Artisans

During Beirut Design Week 2015 , Sarah’s Bag presented “ Woman Rising: From Prisoners to Artisans ”, an experience that takes visitors into the heart of what the social enterprise and handbag and accessories label is all about. In addition to the exhibition, the label showcased its summer collection. Woman Rising draws visitors into the unmediated world of the prisoners who have been working with Sarah’s Bag since the label launched in 2000. Sarah’s Bag designs its collections around these women’s skills in beading, embroidery, and crocheting; their handwork is the label’s signature. The exhibition revealed what led these artists to be incarcerated, their fears, their deepest desires and frustrations, and their hopes for the future. 30 artists pour their stories onto 40 canvases, big and small. Proceeds from the sale of each of the big canvases will go to the artist who created it. The funds raised from the sale of the small canvases, which are the work of a group of art...

Outfit of the Day

I've been kind of lazy with posting Outfits of the Day . So here's a quick one I took of one of the caftans I got for the Ramadan season designed by the talented Shugar collection . The caftan has this really unique neckline, like an oversized floppy high-neck, which instantly caught my attention.  I'll show you a close up of the belt she has specially designed for me on instagram, so follow @confashions now.
