A Visit to Dar Al Funoon's Affordable Art Show

Just before the long Eid Vacation, I passed by Dar Al-Funoon to check out its “Affordable Art Show”. It's one of those events which I try not to miss. Especially that I'm trying to collection paintings for my on-going home improvement projects. It was kind of quiet when I passed by, probably because everyone was already traveling for Eid. I was also slightly disappointed as I imagened it to display more options, like they did in their previous events. The selection was kind of limited. I did find two paintings that i really liked by William Anderson but I was too little too late as they were already sold out.

The “Affordable Art Show”, which is usually held 3-4 times a year, features a wide range of impressive works on paper, limited editions and originals by emerging artists from the Middle East and the world in general.

Loved the blue and white paintings by artist William Anderson. They were priced at KD 70 each and unfortunately for me they were both sold out already.

Water color painting titled "Billie Holiday" by artist Philip Kamble, known for his passion to painting music-related subjects. It was priced at KD 90 and I think you can still find it at Dar Al Funoon.

A beautiful set of paintings with Arabic calligraphy, oil on canvas, by artist Waleed Hassaniyah, KD 70 each.

Magical Mode

As anyone who regularly reads Confashions may know, there are some designers I’ve been obsessed with for quite some time: one is the genius Erdem , the other is Nicholas Kirkwood , and Pierre Hardy . And because their designs are somehow easily accessible online and offline, I had the pleasure of featuring some of their creations and showing them the love they deserve. That said, there is one designer I’ve been particularly smitten with for quite some time. He has always been on the top of my favorite designers list ever since I was introduced to his designs by my fabulous fellow fashionisto Adnan Z Manjal   a couple of years back : Saudi designer Mohammed Ashi . I always wished I featured him more. I couldn’t because his pieces are very exclusive and as far as I know not stocked anywhere here. This clearly isn't just another post on my obvious love for Mohammed Ashi’s designs or the quality of his clothes as I have done that previously. Ashi simply deserves his very own epic p...

Altuzarra or Aquazzura?

That is the question. It took me a whole season to finally tell these two brands apart, and this season, there's no mistake, each brand is now engraved in my fashion database like a personalized Tiffany's pen. And this Resort 2015 season, I'm head over heels with their flats, on display now at AlOthman Boutique . Altuzarra's version comes in a tonal-gray water snake and are decorated with beige shells, red beads and silver sequins. Aquazzura's lace-up sandals come in a beautiful shade of apple green, and will work with white or bright colored casual summer outfit.  After much thought and sole-searching, I have decided to go for the  Altuzarra   sandals. They're safely stored in my closet, waiting for the dust and the cold to go away.  Which pair would you go for?

Miu Miu Pays Tribute to the Middle East

Everyone who knows me, knows that I have a soft spot for bag charms. They're fun, cute, and add a dose of irresistible character to your plain handbag. So when I got the news about Miu Miu paying tribute to the Middle Eastern culture by presenting an exclusive playful yet multifunctional accessories in luxurious precious skin, I got excited intrigued. The round-shaped charms has the Arabic alphabet, each piece presenting a letter design with metallic hues and vibrant colors. They're cute, nothing groundbreaking. I'm not sure if these bags charms would step up my bag charms game, but I guess it depends on their price tag and how "exclusively" exclusive they are. Maybe they'll grow on me? I don't know... What do you think? The charms should be available exclusively in  Miu Miu   Boutiques throughout our region.
