Al Othman's Winter Sale Extravaganza

Shopaholics and bargain hunters unite! Forget about Net-a-Porter's sale. Al Othman boutique is having up to 50% off designer labels for women such as Derek Lam, Erdem, Proenza Schouler, Peter Som, Oscar De La Renta, Matthew Williamson, Vera Wang.. and more (here goes my savings!). And No, Christian Louboutin and Devi Kroell are NOT on sale. So make sure to head to Al Othman first thing in the morning tomorrow to get your pick of luxury goods, especially that it's the "receptions" season and we all need a new formal outfit since you've worn yours 3 days in a row now.

Al Othman is located at Mariam Complex, Salem AlMubarak St, Salmiya. For inquires, please call (+965) 575-4954.

Hands on heart, tell me all you fashion vultures out there - which of the three do you like the most and why - Al Othman, Al Ostoura or Villa Moda? Do let's have a quick show of hands.
This blog is name dropping couturiers every time all the time and so I ask if there are, in fact, any prominent designers/ fashion houses conspicious by their absence in the Kuwaiti market?

Thanks!
Will try and go by to see the large hobo bags and what colour of the boots they have left.

ellie,
Interesting question. AlOthman hands down. They are an all rounder and the only one i feel really comfortable shopping at.
If Confashion does a subject on this I would elaborate on the pros and cons.

well I don't like al othman at all and I think they don't deserve the designer names they carry, their service is absoluetly appauling and a disgrace 2 fashion, once I was about to call one of the designers for allowing such a store to represent him, they have a handful of clientele whom they call first and leave us the FATHLA although I used to be an excellent costumer of alothman and my mom and grandma before me but they still dont bother to call, even if I asked for a specific Item and called every week waiting for it to arrive then I see it on my best freinds arm!!! imagine the shock, and she didn't even called them or asked for this bag , it arrived they called her and she went and got it !!! they are the worst shop and they got the worst service ..thank god for online shopping and al-ostora and villa moda now from these two al-othman should take a lesson or two from!

Dear Anonymous
We are very sorry that you had such a bad experience with AlOthman that made you change your views about us especially as you have mentioned that you and your immediate family have been excellent customers of AlOthman.
We are not sure what went wrong with the bag you had asked for but mistakes do happen and we would like to apologize to you for that.
We take pride in our 52 years of service in the Kuwait market so when we become aware of a mistake that takes place we do our best to correct it.
We assure you that we will re-evaluate our reservation policies in order to avoid such mistakes happening again.
We would also urge you to contact the manager so we can personally apologize to you.
With Best Regards
Alothman

Dear Confashion,

i am for sure NOT going to AlOstoura nor to Villa Moda unless i want something specific right now.
Im sorry you got such an experience at Al Othman.
I would also recommend addressing issues like that directly to the store owner.
Also make sure your name is really down next to the items name/refernce so they will for sure hold it. the Sales Girls are usually very good. Which one were you dealing with?
I am intrigued now...

That still doesn't answer my question on designers if there are any, whose absence is palpable on the Kuwait fashion scene.
Anonymous said…
Not sure if this is the right place to answer the above but to my knowledge, i cannot think of any designers NOT being represented in Kuwait

How about Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Satya Paul, Isaac Mizrahi, Aki Narula, and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla among a bevy of unusual suspects?
Further, what sort of window space do African designers command in Kuwait fashion stores?

In terms of merchandise, I like all 3 because they all carry huge variety of designers and trendy brands. But in terms of display and customer service I would have to say that Al Othman tops them all. Their sales people are not pushy and they're very friendly. And you can easily skim through the racks and see EVERY item in store with comfort. Merchandise is not stacked and cluttered.

I'm not sure which brands are missing, but in the fashion world, there are always new and upcoming brands and designers every season. So a lot of research needs to be done by retailers to find brands that suit the Kuwaiti market.

You can try Pinkmoon boutique located on "the strip" next to Burger Hub. Or you can buy them on their online shop: http://www.pinkmoonboutique.com/detail.asp?item_id=237. Or as anonymous said, check amazon or nordstrom online.

sherifahh
I think they have them in silver and bronze if I'm not mistaken. Good luck :)

Take it from me, whenever such thing happens to you immidiately confront the person in charge of the store. They'll help you resolve the issue and get a better customer service in the future. Sometimes The action of a lazy salesperson damages your impression of the store, but it doesn't necessarily indicate that it is acceptable by the management or owners. :)

alothman
Thank you for your professionalisim and your amazing customer service.

anonymous
I totally agree with you on how to handle such situations :)

anonymous, ellie, and baris
As I mentioned in my previous comment, I'm sure there are a lot of brands and designers missing in the Kuwaiti market but with the strong competition going on in this small market, I think we'll see a lot of new and upcoming designers being represented here in Kuwait in the future especially that most kuwaiti fashionistas want to look trendy and original.

How are all the shoes.
I heard they have these crazy platforms that Kate Moss just recently wore. forgot the name!!!!
Anyway, do they have any of those in gold or anything metallic and really high? those for summer with ripped rolled up jeans (think alexander wang Summer08) and a super sheer white tee by The Row and ready to go......

Chanel Dubai Cruise 2015 Collection

I can't remember if I shared my views about Chanel's Dubai Cruise 2015 Collection on my blog or not, but I thought I'd share with you some photos of the pieces on display now at Chanel Boutique in Kuwait, Prestige in the Avenues and Salhiya Complex. I wasn't too crazy about the clothes. However, I did like some of the bags which had pompoms and tassels on them, as well as the gigantic pearl clutch. I also loved the Moroccan-inspired pointy flats and the silver jewelry adorned with coins and crescents. Of course the shoes were sold out in my size and I wasn't so crazy about the patterned ones. I LOVED the flap bag with Pom Poms, but it was above my budget. Overall the collection felt more Moroccan than Dubai-an. I wish if they have incorporate more of the our gulf region's culture into the designs. Oh And I added to this post photos of Chanel's milk carton shaped python clutch bag embellished with a CC signature. They're not part of the Dubai colle

Altuzarra or Aquazzura?

That is the question. It took me a whole season to finally tell these two brands apart, and this season, there's no mistake, each brand is now engraved in my fashion database like a personalized Tiffany's pen. And this Resort 2015 season, I'm head over heels with their flats, on display now at AlOthman Boutique . Altuzarra's version comes in a tonal-gray water snake and are decorated with beige shells, red beads and silver sequins. Aquazzura's lace-up sandals come in a beautiful shade of apple green, and will work with white or bright colored casual summer outfit.  After much thought and sole-searching, I have decided to go for the  Altuzarra   sandals. They're safely stored in my closet, waiting for the dust and the cold to go away.  Which pair would you go for?

To New Beginnings...

"What did this Corona crisis teach you?" my friend asked. My first thought was thing crisis has opened my eyes on the simple pleasures of life. My priorities have changed. And I feel every day is a new beginning. First of all, it made me realize how much I miss blogging. How simple and mentally satisfying it was to jolt down my thoughts on a field that I was very passionate about. I have to admit that I'm not as passionate now. Don't get me wrong, I still like fashion, but it's now on the bottom of my priorities list. I would like to blog about other things too that I feel much related to. I recently discovered that I do enjoy cooking. For the longest time, cooking to me was a nightmare.  This corona crisis has taught us that we can look forward to a new day with new possibilities to contribute or to help another, or to simply approach things differently, and most importantly to make the most of each day we have and share that goodness with others.
