The Women in My Life by Rasha Al-Hejailan

OK so I've never been a great cook, but for some reason I love buying cookbooks. Yes, they do end-up decorating our kitchen counter with yellow post-it notes sticking out on every side of the book, hopelessly waiting for the recipes to be tried and tested. Nevertheless, I'm a firm believer that there's no such thing as too many cookbooks. Besides, they would make perfect gifts for the foodie in your life, or better yet a gift to your Ramadan hostess to show your gratitude.

The Women in My Life is a new cookbook by Rasha Al-Hejailan, a 28 year old Saudi woman, married with two kids and living in Kuwait. I have read about it on ilSul6ana and Danderma and wanted to get a copy myself. So when Rasha heard, she kindly sent me a copy (Thank you! Very sweet of you).

Rasha spent the majority of her life living abroad and therefore lost touch with a lot of her friends and relatives. So she decided to do something about it. Rasha contacted all the women in her life and asked them to donate their ‘signature’ recipe that she would include in her cookbook along with her own recipes. This process made her spend quality time with her loved ones and learn new things about them.

I read the cookbook myself and  there were so many things that I liked about it, like the fact that it emphasizes on cooking with ingredients that are available at your typical grocery store, easy-to-follow cooking instructions, the personal touch in each recipe, the fact that Rasha took all of the photos of the cookbook herself, and last but not least, finding my lovely dear friend Alia (and her famous recipes) as part of the women in Rasha's life. I have personally tried the beef carpaccio Salad and it was sooo good! I'm also very interested to try Rasha'a coffee pancakes recipe.. sounds delish!

And that's not all, part of my book’s sale proceeds go to two different charities that help children in need. One is ‘Helping Hands KSA’ a charity in Saudi Arabia that directly supports underprivileged children. The other is a newly established pediatric care department at ‘Fawzia Sultan Rehabilitation Institute (FSRI)’ in Kuwait.

I've had the good fortune of running into Rasha in person and in reality she is a very sweet ambitious girl. I love her book and the concept behind it, wish her all the best insha2 Allah :)

Oh and I agree, you can never have too many cook books ;)

She is absolutely charming, I have met her once too and she's very down-to-earth and although it was a brief chat, I have enjoyed her presence. :)

Magical Mode

As anyone who regularly reads Confashions may know, there are some designers I’ve been obsessed with for quite some time: one is the genius Erdem , the other is Nicholas Kirkwood , and Pierre Hardy . And because their designs are somehow easily accessible online and offline, I had the pleasure of featuring some of their creations and showing them the love they deserve. That said, there is one designer I’ve been particularly smitten with for quite some time. He has always been on the top of my favorite designers list ever since I was introduced to his designs by my fabulous fellow fashionisto Adnan Z Manjal   a couple of years back : Saudi designer Mohammed Ashi . I always wished I featured him more. I couldn’t because his pieces are very exclusive and as far as I know not stocked anywhere here. This clearly isn't just another post on my obvious love for Mohammed Ashi’s designs or the quality of his clothes as I have done that previously. Ashi simply deserves his very own epic p...

Altuzarra or Aquazzura?

That is the question. It took me a whole season to finally tell these two brands apart, and this season, there's no mistake, each brand is now engraved in my fashion database like a personalized Tiffany's pen. And this Resort 2015 season, I'm head over heels with their flats, on display now at AlOthman Boutique . Altuzarra's version comes in a tonal-gray water snake and are decorated with beige shells, red beads and silver sequins. Aquazzura's lace-up sandals come in a beautiful shade of apple green, and will work with white or bright colored casual summer outfit.  After much thought and sole-searching, I have decided to go for the  Altuzarra   sandals. They're safely stored in my closet, waiting for the dust and the cold to go away.  Which pair would you go for?

Miu Miu Pays Tribute to the Middle East

Everyone who knows me, knows that I have a soft spot for bag charms. They're fun, cute, and add a dose of irresistible character to your plain handbag. So when I got the news about Miu Miu paying tribute to the Middle Eastern culture by presenting an exclusive playful yet multifunctional accessories in luxurious precious skin, I got excited intrigued. The round-shaped charms has the Arabic alphabet, each piece presenting a letter design with metallic hues and vibrant colors. They're cute, nothing groundbreaking. I'm not sure if these bags charms would step up my bag charms game, but I guess it depends on their price tag and how "exclusively" exclusive they are. Maybe they'll grow on me? I don't know... What do you think? The charms should be available exclusively in  Miu Miu   Boutiques throughout our region.
