Rania.. Art.. and Fashion

Being a blogger, one of my favorite things is discovering new talents and hidden gems from our region. I was introduced to a Kuwaiti female artist Rania Abulhasan and the moment I finished reading her profile, I immediately remembered Walt Disney's quote:” All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them”, which sums-up the astonishing profile of Rania. her artwork captures the allure of fashion and abstract art with a mix of beautifully colored paintings. I personally think Rania’s artwork deserves national recognition and more.

Born to a Kuwaiti family, Rania Abulhasan is fluent in English and Arabic, and communicates well in French. She is a proud mother of a 17 month old baby boy and a devoted wife to her loving husband.

Rania is a contemporary artist with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. She graduated with honors from Parson School of Art and Design, The New School. She started her university education in Parsons Paris and moved to Parsons New York to earn her BFA degree in Art and Design. Rania majored in Fashion Design while she continued to explore her passion in Fine Arts. In Paris she attended fine arts classes at Ecole des Beaux Arts. Her artistic talent was always expressed through her designs. She studied, worked and was groomed under great artists and designers such as Gilles Rosier for Kenzo, Donna Karen, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, John Galliano, Isaac Mizrahi and many more.

She started her design career in 1999 always getting back to her passion of art for inspiration and as a means to enhance and further her designs. Rania was selected among her class to work with Donna Karan to create a collection. She was awarded a Silver Thimble by a New York based couturier Zang Toi. She also collaborated with New York based designer Gloria Sachs to create a unique print pattern using a new and specialized laser printing technique.

Rania held her first solo exhibition in 2006 and continues to show her art work frequently. She has done 7 solos shows up to date. Rania is currently working on several private commissions and a collection of paintings that will showcase in the Fall.  To find out more, please join Rania’s Facebook Group or send her an e-mail to raniaabulhasan@mac.com.

Magical Mode

As anyone who regularly reads Confashions may know, there are some designers I’ve been obsessed with for quite some time: one is the genius Erdem , the other is Nicholas Kirkwood , and Pierre Hardy . And because their designs are somehow easily accessible online and offline, I had the pleasure of featuring some of their creations and showing them the love they deserve. That said, there is one designer I’ve been particularly smitten with for quite some time. He has always been on the top of my favorite designers list ever since I was introduced to his designs by my fabulous fellow fashionisto Adnan Z Manjal   a couple of years back : Saudi designer Mohammed Ashi . I always wished I featured him more. I couldn’t because his pieces are very exclusive and as far as I know not stocked anywhere here. This clearly isn't just another post on my obvious love for Mohammed Ashi’s designs or the quality of his clothes as I have done that previously. Ashi simply deserves his very own epic p...

Altuzarra or Aquazzura?

That is the question. It took me a whole season to finally tell these two brands apart, and this season, there's no mistake, each brand is now engraved in my fashion database like a personalized Tiffany's pen. And this Resort 2015 season, I'm head over heels with their flats, on display now at AlOthman Boutique . Altuzarra's version comes in a tonal-gray water snake and are decorated with beige shells, red beads and silver sequins. Aquazzura's lace-up sandals come in a beautiful shade of apple green, and will work with white or bright colored casual summer outfit.  After much thought and sole-searching, I have decided to go for the  Altuzarra   sandals. They're safely stored in my closet, waiting for the dust and the cold to go away.  Which pair would you go for?

Miu Miu Pays Tribute to the Middle East

Everyone who knows me, knows that I have a soft spot for bag charms. They're fun, cute, and add a dose of irresistible character to your plain handbag. So when I got the news about Miu Miu paying tribute to the Middle Eastern culture by presenting an exclusive playful yet multifunctional accessories in luxurious precious skin, I got excited intrigued. The round-shaped charms has the Arabic alphabet, each piece presenting a letter design with metallic hues and vibrant colors. They're cute, nothing groundbreaking. I'm not sure if these bags charms would step up my bag charms game, but I guess it depends on their price tag and how "exclusively" exclusive they are. Maybe they'll grow on me? I don't know... What do you think? The charms should be available exclusively in  Miu Miu   Boutiques throughout our region.
